Kedjom Keku — Our Home
A village of majesty, sacred forests, and living culture in the highlands of Cameroon
Where We Come From
Kedjom Keku is situated in the Tubah Sub-Division of Mezam Division in the Northwest Region of Cameroon. Perched in the fertile Bamenda Highlands at an altitude that gives it a cool, misty climate, the village is surrounded by rolling hills, streams, and dense forest cover. It lies approximately 25 km from Bamenda, the regional capital.
The landscape is defined by open grassland savannah meeting dense gallery forest, with the extraordinary Kedjom Keku Community Forest forming the village's green crown. The mild highland climate supports lush agriculture and rich biodiversity.
The Sacred Community Forest
The Kedjom Keku Community Forest is one of West Africa's crown jewels of conservation. Covering thousands of hectares, it was among the first community forests formally registered in Cameroon under the 1994 Forestry Law — a milestone achieved through decades of community determination.
The forest is home to hundreds of species of birds, primates, and rare plants. It is managed directly by the village community, making it a globally recognised model of indigenous environmental stewardship. For every son and daughter of Kedjom Keku, protecting this forest is both a sacred duty and an enduring source of pride.
The Soul of Kedjom Keku
The Fon & Traditional Leadership
Kedjom Keku is governed by a traditional ruler, the Fon of Kedjom Keku, who serves as the spiritual, cultural, and administrative heart of the chiefdom. The Fon's palace is the symbolic centre of village life. Alongside the Fon, the Kwifon — a powerful traditional regulatory council — plays a vital role in maintaining social order, preserving customs, and resolving disputes. This system of governance has functioned for centuries and remains deeply respected today.
